Crash and Burn Items

I went to Walmart today to see if they had any ground beef marked down, but didn't find any meat, although I did find some canned goods marked down.

They had these small cans of Spaghettios marked down to 15¢ each. (They were the small cans) The middle school here makes snack packs for the students and they ask for canned pasta and soup regularly, so I will be passing these along to them. They only had four cans, but I could not pass them up for that price.

They also had Campbell's Home Style soup for 25¢. It is the Italian Style Wedding Soup, but I couldn't pass it up for that price and bought four cans. I don't know if students would eat this or not. What do you think?

And last but not least, for our pantry, I found six cans of cut Hanover Italian Green Beans. They are the big cans, 38 ounces, and were only 50¢ a can, so I bought them all. What a great deal.  :)

  1. What do the snack packs involve, is it for less fortunate and hungry kids? That makes me sad!

That's a lot of salty unhealthy pre made food, but compared with nothing, I'm sure they will be great full.

    1. We live in an area with high poverty. Students often go without food over the weekend. The last meal they have is a school lunch on Friday until Monday's school breakfast. The snack packs help them have some food over the weekend. The coordinators specifically ask for canned soups and canned pasta, so I like to help out when I am able.

    2. Wow that is terribly sad and heart breaking to hear. That is so hard to fathom. Wow. Every bit helps, how kind of you to contribute.

    3. Thank you. I give all the glory to God. He placed the items in my path and I knew right away what to do with them.

  3. I think teens like a lot of soup-quick to heat up on their own and wedding soup is pretty tasty with the little meat balls and pasta. Our school doesn't have the pantry, but other local schools do-it is a great idea, as this week our school has been out three of the four days, so a hardship for some families to feed kids an extra three lunches and breakfasts.

    1. It is such a great idea because unfortunately, it can be a hardship for some parents to feed their children sometimes.

Thank you for the feedback on the wedding soup.

  4. That's a hard concept for most of us to imagine, children not eating all weekend. I volunteered at a food pantry for over 20 years and have seen it all.

I think it's wonderful that the school has stepped up to help these families.

Great buys and knowing you will be feeding children is reward enough.

Does the school prepare baskets for families over the holidays, i.e. Thanksgiving, Christmas?

    1. No, they don't prepare baskets for the families but that would be a good idea. One of the teachers cares so much for these children. She will even advocate others to take them snack crackers and things like that when they are snowed in for a day or more. She truly has a heart of gold.

I know you have seen a lot with 20 years volunteer work at the food pantry. My heart goes out to them.

  5. Great prices. Our school district is trying to start a backpack program for weekends. It is great that you were able to contribute these items.

  6. That is such a wonderful program, providing something to eat over the weekends for students in need. You found some awesome deals on the foods to add to the snack packs. Not only do many struggling families not have much food available at home, but often don't have opportunity/transportation to get out and check for clearance items at stores.

    Have a great week, Belinda!

    1. Thank you, Lili.

You are so right about the transportation issues with struggling families. Bob Waldroup, who lives in Oklahoma, runs a food pantry where they deliver food to needy families and he has multiple volunteers who drive the food to the families homes. It is such a wonderful program. I would love to see more of this in other places.

I hope you have a great week too.
