Saving Money on Hair Cuts

In southern Tennessee, where we live, it is hot and humid for more than six months of the year. My daughter and I are both hot natured anyway, so we like to keep our hair cut short to help stay cooler.

We normally get our hair cut at Great Clips since they only charge $13 for a haircut, and even then we usually try to find a coupon to lower that cost.

And some of my  readers may recall that we even had our hair cut at Super Cuts this summer for free.

One thing I don't care for when getting a haircut is the time to drive to the shop, time spent waiting for a stylist, and the actually getting my hair cut. I would much rather be doing something else.

In our efforts to save even more money this summer we decided to buy a Wahl Pro Hair Clipper.  At the time we bought it last month it was only $18, but I see now that it is $22 on Amazon.

So far we have used it enough times that it has paid for itself already. My daughter loves it because she can clip her hair whenever she wants to and does not have to wait to go to the beauty salon.

So from here on out now we will be cutting our own hair and it won't cost us anything. I love that and the fact that I won't have to spend any time going to get my hair cut somewhere other than home.

  1. I cut my husband's hair now and used to do both his and my son's when he was still at home. However, my daughter has hers done by a favorite stylist. I am actually trying to grow my hair out some so it won't require as frequent trips to be cut and shaped. I can't wait to hear an update on how this is working for you because I have always been afraid to cut my own.

    1. Thank you, Busy Bee. You've saved quite a bit yourself over the years cutting your husband and son's hair. That's great. I will be sure to update you all on how this works out for us. :)

  2. Our wahl clippers have paid for themselves many times over. I cut my husband's and sons' hair and I trim my daughter's hair. I get mine cut about once or twice a year whenever I get sick of it. I actually cut both of my sons' hair this afternoon.

    1. That is terrific, Rachel. I love hearing that others are doing this as well. You must have saved a lot of money over the years cutting your family's hair yourself. That is so great. :)

  3. Clippers and I do not get along, but a small pair of professional scissors bought at Sally's Supplies and I can do it for DH and me. You are saving money for years to come, not just a year, and you have already paid for the clippers. Years ago, DH and a DD modeled for clippers sold with a set including a video with them. Sold well but don't recall the company. Neat memory, anyway.

    1. Yes, what a neat memory, Anna. I agree that a small pair of professional scissors works well too. I have a pair of hair cutting scissors that I trim my bangs and sides with. I'm looking forward to saving money for years to come too. :)
