Update from the Frugal Workshop

Good afternoon everyone! :)

It's been awhile since I've posted, so I thought I would give everyone an update.

Last time I blogged, I wrote about my summer to do list. I am happy to say that I've completed everything on my to do list and even done a little bit more as well. I helped my daughter clean out her room and we donated quite a bit of items to our local People Helping People shop.

We finally were able to get my old car back from my brother-in-law who was a saint when it came to fixing it for us. He didn't charge us anything and I am deeply grateful for that. We did have to pay someone a $25 fee to haul garbage off for us one time, which was worth every penny in my book since it was about three weeks worth of garbage. But, we have been hauling it off ourselves ever since we got the old car back.

My daughter has been couponing at least once a week and has us stocked up one so many items. BBQ sauce, mustard, ketchup, pasta, laundry detergent, beans, cookies, chili, shampoo, which are just some of the things she has gotten. Just this week she was able to pick up several of those Bic lighter sticks and actually had overage on them, which helped pay for the other groceries we bought. She is a couponing queen in my book.  :)

It has been tremendously hot here this summer with many days reaching into the 100s, but we did have some rain this weekend, which helped to bring the temperature down into the 70s, which was a welcome sight.

We've been enjoying our time off from school this summer. I've especially enjoyed sleeping in later than usual and know I will miss that once school starts again in August. We've been to the library and swimming a couple of times, but mostly we have stayed home this summer. I have been reading more than I do during the school year, which I love. We have also been eating the majority of our meals here and saving gas, money, and wear and tear on the cars.

Dinner today was Salmon Patties, Rice & Cheese, and Corn, which I cut off the cob and creamed on top of the stove and was a big hit with the family. They are pretty easy to please though. ; ) Right now I have pinto beans soaking for this week. I'm going to make refried beans out of them and have Bean & Cheese Enchiladas sometime this week. I have everything for them on hand, so this will be a meatless and money saving dinner.

How is everything with you?

  3. Hi, Belinda and all your family. :):):) Such an extended absence worries me. It is not only that I miss your tips and chatter but am concerned that there is a problem --->> and that we do not want.

Happy that you finished your summer list and then some. Breathing easier?

As for staying close to home, we find plenty to do every day of the week without cost. Having a good time without spending is a very good time for us. lol. Our libraries supply enough entertainment by themselves, but the community always offers many activities without cost.

Health-wise, we have reached the time when we hire others to mow, edge, and weed-whack our yard. We offer a cooler with power drinks and bottles of water for the workers. Buying Aldi's power drinks, saves 50% per bottle, and water is bought by the case at Sam's. We go easy on entertainment costs but pay for yard care.

I am proud of your DD's couponing. You are training her well, and she will reap the benefits for years to come. When my DD took her sister's father-in-law couponing, he was incredulous when she saved 77% (about $70) and was ready to kneel before her. This week, DH came home with a lovely pullover for me that he had bought for $1 on sale. After I looked over every inch of it, I found nothing wrong and claimed him King for a Day.

Please continue to encourage us with your ideas and happenings. Your blog is one of the best. -anna

  4. Thank you so much. I was wondering about you too. Hope everything is going well with you and Richard. :)

I am breathing easier now that my summer list is finished. And now the calendar has turned to July already, times just flies it seems anymore. This will be B's last year of high school.

That is so great of you to offer drinks for those who are doing the yard work for you. I certainly understand hiring someone to do those things. I am ready, willing, and able to pay someone to do certain things for me like garbage. It's hard for me to hoist a bag of garbage up and into the dumpster. I think I've done it so many times I have hurt my shoulder and now it wants to call it quits. lol

Your DD & DH did a great job!! I love bargains like that.

Thank you again Anna. Your kind words mean so much to me. :)
