Saving Money on Heat: Infrared Heater

Last winter, my Dad bought one of those new infrared heaters that have become available in the last few years. He liked it so much that he bought another one this year for his workshop, and he found a buy one get one free deal. So, lucky us, he gave us the extra heater to use in our house.

This heater is able to heat up to 1,500 square feet safely without any flames or fumes or drying the air out. Infrared heaters are designed to be used as a supplemental heating source. It allows you to turn down your central heat and use the infrared heater at a fraction of the cost of traditional heating systems.

This one came with a lifetime warranty, will heat up to 1500 square feet, does not remove humidity from the air, and will heat multiple rooms. This little heater has been doing a great job of heating and keeping the house warm.

The best part is that it costs less to operate than other forms of heat. We have electric baseboard heaters in this house and they can be expensive to operate, which is one of the reasons my Dad initially bought this type of heater. We have not had to use the baseboard heaters since we have been using the Infrared heater because it has kept the house very warm. When our electric bill came this month it was $60 less than the electric bill for the same period as last year. A very nice savings. :)

    1. According to my Dad, they plug into your wall socket and use 110 electricity verses using 220 electricity, which is why it costs less to operate. It plugs into the wall in any room, has wheels to move it around, forwards or backwards, it is not hot to the touch, so you can set things on it if you want to. So far it's been a good fit for us.

  2. That is great! We've been using an oil-filled, electric, portable radiator in one of the rooms this year. This particular room is just too far from the furnace to get decent heat. I'm hoping our bills will be lower or at least not more, using an extra heater (we're still using the furnace for the rest of the house).

    1. Hopefully your bill will be lower, Lili. Using supplemental heat should help. You'll have to let us know if it works. :)
