Saturday at the Frugal Workshop

It has been an extremely busy week here. You can probably tell from the lack of a daily post and my lack of commenting on this and other posts and blogs.

First off, I worked every day this week, which usually makes it harder to post everyday.

Secondly, my Mother fell this past Tuesday and had to be taken via ambulance to the hospital. She is OK from the fall, but they found several gallstones and needed to operate to remove her gallbladder. She had it done Laparoscopically, so a minimally invasive surgery. She is doing well, and we have been to visit with her every day after school/work this week, so I've had very little time to spend on the computer. If all goes well today, she may get to come home.

I just wanted to let you all know why I have not been here this week as much as usual. I hope things will settle down soon and I will be back with you regularly. :)

  1. Nice to see you posting again, Belinda. Sorry about your Mom. I had my gall bladder out a few years ago (incisional surgery, after she (female surgeon) tried laproscopically but discovered complications). Mom should have been advised to watch her diet, esp. fats. One's body responds to eating, differently after gall bladder surgery

    1. Thank you, Carol. I've heard the incisional surgery is harder to recover from. It must have taken you a while to heal from that. I thought Mom was going to get to come home today, but not so. They have continued her pain meds and she has been sleeping non stop. I talked to her nurse and she is trying to get her up and walking. Maybe she will come home tomorrow and with instructions on the diet. So far, she has not received any instructions on diet.

  2. While my surgery was what I'd equate to a 60% C/Section (I had 3 of those!), I recall being on a liquid diet at the hospital (was there for 3 days after surgery I think): broth, coffee w/o dairy, Jello. Let eventually let me eat "normally" but cautioned that I had to watch fats as the bile is no longer released a bit at a time as needed but will flood into the digestive track if there is a high fat meal. Some* end up with lower G/I issues for life, luckily I only occassionally have an issue, usually involving eating too much peanut butter, which seems to trigger it for me. I can have fried foods (not that I do so often) without any ill effects. : )

Mom will be sore for a few weeks, I was out of work 4 or 5 weeks (really went back a week too soon, in hindsight). I was able, fortunately, to leave once my classes were over, if I had a free period from teaching.

    Wishing her a speedy recovery!

    1. Thank you, Carol. I will be sure to let her know about your diet immediately afterwards. I know she has been on a liquid diet before the surgery, but has had nothing since then. She has been sleeping mostly. She's been complaining of a pain in her right side and so they've been giving her pain meds right along. Hopefully they will start to slack off on those tomorrow. I hope so anyway.

  3. Plus she may just be getting stiff from being in bed! They will want her to be mobile as soon as possible, eating well/tolerating foods, and being able to use the restroom.

    1. I believe that is what her nurse was wanting her to do as well. Hopefully today will bring about some of that. We plan on going by to check up on her and bring her some things she might need.

  4. Hi Belinda,
I'm sorry to hear of your mom's fall. I hope her recuperation goes well. I just assumed that you were working all week (which you were), and I was glad that you had so much work. Life just gets in the way of our plans, doesn't it? Hope this next week goes better for you :)
