Fourth Frugal Friday of November 2023

Welcome to Frugal Friday!

My Frugal Week

No Black Friday shopping for me today. How about you? I already have planned out what I'm buying for Christmas, so no need to do any shopping today.

Our porch light quit working last week, so after trying to fix it ourselves, I mentioned it to my Dad who had it fixed and running when I got back home that evening. Not only that, but he added a light fixture to light up the stairs we well.

This isn't the best picture, but you can see the difference in daylight and night time in this picture. It is pitch black out here where we live, but the light over the steps really lights up the stairs.

I've worked on the back porch all week as I've had to go out there multiple times per day just to sweep the leaves off the porch. Tennessee is under a no burn ban right now with hefty fines, so no fires are allowed.

This is a map of the eastern part of the state of Tennessee. We are in the lower southern corner in red, which is the area I've circled in black. Any red counties are currently under a burn ban.

There are so many leaves here and it is so dry from the lack of rain that the leaves pose a danger. I woke up to the sound of rain on Tuesday morning, and for that I am truly grateful.

On Tuesday I made Chili for our company coming this week, swept off the back porch several times, and cleaned up really well in the kitchen scrubbing and vacuuming.

I took some Chili and some dressing that I made on Monday to my Dad, so he could enjoy it as well. He said he ate half the chili while watching Gunsmoke.

I received a deposit of $119.46 this week from Adsense from my blog, which is the first check I've received since April.

After baking on Thursday morning, I left the oven door open just a crack to let all that good heat out into the house.

Photo & Savings of the Week

Isn't that a beautiful picture? I'm loving the fact that gas prices are coming back down.
I was able to fill up my car this week for only $38.20. I also noticed it was down to $2.47 per gallon at Sam's Club.

  1. Tommy won't get the porch light or any of the floodlights fixed, so we come and go sometimes in pitch blackness. It scares me.
The cheapest gas we have found was $2.82, so that price is amazing. Good for you. Maybe it will drop to that around here.
We will go for deals and to use coupons at Walgreen's. But, the only reason we are going out at all is because the ad runs out.

    1. Yes, I am afraid of falling down the stairs, so I really need the stairs lit up when it is so dark. Do you carry a flashlight with you? You can hang one on a lanyard on your neck if you think that will help. I did that when our light was out.

Oh, $2.82 is good too, better than it was, but I do hope it drops for you all too.

Have fun shopping at Walgreen's I hope you find a lot of great deals.

  2. Hi Belinda. I was able to find a few black Friday online sale items, two are Christmas gifts so I was happy. I was also able to find a good black Friday sale on pet food. I'm watching online sales, I need ideas for my 14 year old grand-daughter and daughter-in-law, so far I've not had any luck.
How nice of your dad to fix your porch light and give you good lighting for your stairs. That's a lot of steps! Please be careful on them. A couple days ago I missed the bottom step on ours, lol there's only 5 steps. I fell hard but thankfully didn't break anything. I had ordered a back/shoulder heating pad for my son for Christmas. I thought hey I need this lol. It was wonderful. I've re-ordered another one for my son.

I'm glad you got rain. I hope you get enough to get the fire ban lifted.
We have been in a severe drought here the last few years, I worry about fires. We've got lots of leaves too. Trees are such nice shade in the summer but we sure pay for it in leaves.

I hope you have a great week Belinda. Sky

    1. Oh, how neat to find a few Black Friday online sale items. I have not looked at any of the ads and I'm heading out the door to go to physical therapy this morning.

Oh, a good deal on pet food is terrific! We could use a good sale on that.

Oh no! I'm afraid of falling down the stairs. I joke and tell them they would have to call an ambulance to get me up. LOL I'm so glad you are OK and didn't break anything. You be careful on your steps and I will be careful on mine too. Isn't that funny about the heating pad? One time I bought my Dad pistachios for Christmas and I sate them before the holiday and had to replace them too. LOL

Oh, yes on the leaves! We have so many of them. We are going to get them blown off tomorrow, so that should help.

I hope you have a great weekend too, Sky. I hope we both get some much needed rain too. :)

  3. In the Pacific NW we were thankful to find gasoline in the $3.75 range this week - crazy, huh? But we have so much to be thankful for every day. Didn't realize TN was so dry. I grew up in what was then called Middle Tennessee. It's a beautiful state. Blessings. . .

    1. Oh, Middle Tennessee is beautiful, Vickie. If you're in the Pacific NW, you must be used to a lot of rain there. Crazy gas prices there, so I hope it comes own for you soon too.

  4. Today I picked up two Lyft gift cards, for $20 off each on Amazon. I use Lyft for trips to the airport for work travel, so this saves a bit. I also replaced a few clothing items I'd planned to buy during sales, and got a few gifts.

  5. Happy Thanksgiving!
Yum on the chili! That sounds so good, and I know your Dad really enjoyed it. So glad he fixed the lights for you; that makes a huge difference going down those steps. Be careful this winter with all the snow and ice.
Sorry that you are under a burn ban too, and I hope you don't have any wildfires close. Scary when one lives near the woods.
Our gas was $3.29 the other day, but I hope it comes down some more.
Hope you have a great weekend with family.

    1. Thank you, Kathy, Happy Thanksgiving to you too I hope you all had a wonderful holiday.

Oh, the snow and ice really scare me on those steps. I stocked up on ice removal this month to have on hand for those mornings when they are iced over and I need to go down them. I'm planning any appointments for later in the day, so that shouldn't be an issue.

We borrowed my BIL's leaf blower last night and Bailey is going to blow all the leaves away from the house today. That will definitely make us both feel safer.

I hope your gas comes down more too and I hope you also have a great weekend We had a wonderful time with our family the last two days. It's too bad some of them live so far away from us that we only get to see them about once a year.

  7. I so wish our gas prices matched yours, but I am happy that they dropped over the last week.

Nope, no shopping today. Canada has now joined the Black Friday craze. But in true Canadian fashion our sales go on for at least the two weeks before (some stores were three weeks).

    God bless.

    1. Oh, I'm happy your gas prices dropped some over the past week too, Jackie. That's nice that some stores there have the sales for at least two weeks. That makes better sense to me and you don't get the mad rush like can sometimes happen here on Black Friday. I went past the mall on the way to my physical therapy appointment and it was packed full of cars all the way to the road. I'm glad I wasn't in it.

  9. I haven't been able to leave a comment for weeks under my Google- safyneanais. Crossing fingers my name will work. :)

I love that your Dad was eating chili and watching Gunsmoke. That made me smile.

I am happy for you that the stairs are nice & safe. Stairs are the worst, especially in the Winter.

I did a lot of Black Friday shopping. WalMart purchases- WM had the famed $5 pillows. I got three. I got some slippers, that I needed. Got my husband some Oreos & a game, lol. He was so excited.

Amazon- I needed to upgrade my Kindle. I took advantage of the Kindle deals. I got some fabric fat quarters. Baklava, Turkish Delight, perfume, cutting dies, rubber stamps, scrapbook paper, washcloths. Stocked up on vitamins & laundry detergent. Amazon had laundry detergent for a steal.

Snagged the streaming deals and subscription deals we use in the home. Hubby bought digital games from Xbox.

    1. It worked! Woo Hoo! Hope you are doing well! Sounds like you got some great deals and several needed items. There are a some really good streaming deals out there right now like Hulu for 99 cents per month. I've been thinking about that one, but have not made a decision yet, Time will tell. It's great to hear from you.
