This past week I was able to work everyday, which is great for my budget. I didn't spend any money this week and I still have over half a tank of gas in my car for next week.
Four of the five days I worked in the Home Ec department, which was so terrific. I had a kitchen at my disposal all week long. I loved being able to store my lunch and water in the refrigerator.
There is a courtyard outside the window in this room and there was a red cardinal that came to the window each day.
I saved money on gas this week by using both my Exxon gas rewards card and my EZ Pay card. I paid $2.04 per gallon using both cards.
Dinner this week include Pizza Beans on Sunday, Tacos on Monday, Smoked Sausage, Corn, and Quinoa/Brown Rice on Tuesday.
On Wednesday I made meatloaf and we ate that for two days. We must have been meatloaf hungry because my family requested it again on Friday & Saturday, so that's what we did.
My daughter went to Kroger and IGA on Thursday and picked up three loaves of bread priced at 38¢ each. Sugar in the four pound bag for 99¢ (she picked up the limit of 5), and hot dogs and buns.
We went to multiple yard sales on Saturday and then processed 100 clothing items today to list online this week. I also had another sale on eBay this week.
Hi Belinda, That is great savings on the gas! It seems like it keeps going up these days. Have you ever used the "Get Upside" app for gas? I've heard of it on the radio, and it has good reviews, so I thought I would give it a try. On Monday did you have pizza and beans or Pizza Beans? If it was the latter, what are pizza beans?
Thank you, Nichole. I'll look up the Get Upside app as I've not heard of it before. We had Pizza Beans, which are delicious. Here is a link to the recipe. They are very hearty.
Great week. I love seeing the visiting cardinals. They are so majestic. I remember home ec with great fondness. I loved those classes. Have a wonderful week.
THank you Cheryl. I loved Home Ec back when I was in school too, a lot of fond memories and where I learned to sew. I hope you have a wonderful week too.
That warms my heart your school still teaches HomeEc. I know so many schools have eliminated that department for more STEM. I took every HomeEc class available to me. If I was not taking the class I was a teacher's aide for the other HomeEc classes. I was Secretary of FHA too. I was a hard core HomeEc girl, lol.
Hi Belinda, It sounds like you had a great week. I'm looking for ways to boost our income. Have you ever posted on your process for procuring, processing, and putting up for sale the items that bring in extra cash for you? What kinds of items do you look for? Do you list these on ebay or a facebook page? How much of a mark-up do you expect to be reasonable? Lots of questions, sorry. But I'd appreciate any info you could provide. Thank you, Belinda.
THank you, Lili. We shop yard sales and thrift stores to buy hard goods or clothing items to resell. We bring them home and take photos of them and then process them by writing down all the details of each item. We made up a form to do this easier. Then it gets isted online. We sell on eBay, Poshmark, and Mercari. We try to find items for $1.00 or less however if the name brand is one we know to sell well we will pay more for it. Bailey did all of this by doing her research, so when she sees a brand name she knows it's worth getting. There are bread and butter pieces that we pick up for $1.00 and sell for $10 and that is the bulk of our income sometimes. Selling 10 pieces like this is $100. Let me know if you have any other questions. :)
I might have chosen "Domestic Arts" (HAHA) as college major, but not a good major at the time, as we know from its disappearing from schools. My high school freshman year offered 3 days of PE, 1 day health, and 1 day choice of art, choir, or home ec. I chose home ec, which led me to take a home ec class daily for 3 years. If I could have managed a home ec major with my classical (Latin) major, I would have.
Home ec led to my being president of then Future Homemakers of America junior year (100+ members), state president senior year, and a free train trip to national convention. Junior year, I won first place in FHA state cooking contest: fish division.
Were I a home ec teacher now, I would have projects about thrifting; taking advantage of yard sales; gardening, if only in containers; stretching resources however possible; and whatever met students' needs.
Thank you, Anna. I took Home Ec all four years of high school and is what helped me to be a seamstress and make cloth pads for Bailey. We had great Home Ec classes when I was in high school, not so much today, unfortunately. How neat that you were president of the FHA back in the day, Anna. What kind of fish did you win with?

How many of us took home ec classes?

DeleteProbably local flounder. Many lakes and fishers in NJ.
DeleteThat's a good and mild fish.
