Third Frugal Friday of December 2022

Welcome to Friday!

My Frugal Week

Bailey and I went to town last Friday to run errands. One of the stops was to Home Depot to make a return and to pick up some deck cleaner. It has finally stopped raining after raining every day for two weeks, so I will tackle this task soon.

I finished steaming the clothes Bailey has in her inventory and processed them. Now it’s time to relax a little and enjoy the holidays.

Question of the Week

What is a perfectly frugal day to you?

Mine would definitely involve staying home these days, not spending any money, having the house and windows opened up enjoying a cool breeze while having a good book to read or something to do that I enjoy such as a sewing project.

How about you?

Saving Money In My Frugal Kitchen

A few weeks ago we found one package of four chicken thighs on markdown at Ingles. I thawed them this week and made Sticky Pineapple Chicken out of them and that lasted us for two meals, and we still had some left for lunch the next day.

Meals This Week

All meals are served with either salad or vegetables and may not always be listed here.

Crashed Potatoes, Rice and Cheese, Steamed Kale, Vegetable Stir Fry
Egg Roll in a Bowl, Spinach, Corn on the Cob
Vegetable Plates (Potatoes, Carrots, Broccoli, Corn on the Cob, Tomatoes)
Breakfast for Dinner
Sticky Pineapple Chicken, Carrots & Potatoes

* If you see a dinner in bold print that means we had it more than once this week

Saving on Entertainment

This week we watched two films that are true stories, which is one of my favorite types of films to watch. The first film we watched was Spotlight, which is the true story of how The Boston Globe discovered the scandal and coverup by the Catholic Church.

The second film we watched was She Said, which is based on the true story of two reporters’ investigations of the scandal surrounding Harvey Weinstein, which helped spread the #MeToo movement.

Thank you for dropping by my frugal blog, you are always welcome here. I hope you enjoy this last week leading up to Christmas. We will be enjoying ours at home after some time spent with family.

  1. My ideal frugal day is similar. Home cooked meals from treasures already on hand, going nowhere, but maybe a good walk. A book sounds great. I need to read for pleasure more often.

  2. Perfect frugal day is curled up in my favorite chair spending the day with my husband and furbabies. Windows open and a yummy dinner cooking in the crockpot. I love to work on my art projects while my husband is gaming.

  3. Sounds like you have had a good week. My goodness, you still can have windows open! Not here, just past that. Much cooler weather coming - had a couple days of rain.
Take care and enjoy your weekend.

    1. Thank you, Cheryl. Yes, some days we can still have the windows open and some days we still need the ac on too. Nutty weather for sure. I hope you enjoy the weekend as well.

  4. Sounds like a great frugal week!
Thanks for the reminder of your sticky pineapple chicken recipe; I need to make it again soon, yum! It has been cold and icy here, and I'm wanting to fix your corn chowder recipe this weekend too.
Right now, I think my perfect frugal day would be sitting on the couch reading a good book, with a kitty and a mug of hot cocoa beside me. The Christmas tree lights would be on, and there would be a fire in the fireplace and soup simmering on the stove with some bread in the breadmaker. All the comforts of a frugal home!
Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Sending hugs too.

    1. Yum, I need to make the corn chowder soon too. We really like it too. Your perfect frugal day sounds lovely. The hot chocolate and fire are so warming and inviting. Thank you so much. I hope and pray you all have a very Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year!

  5. I sure wish we could still open our windows, but its way too cold. I love getting fresh air indoors. Sounds like you had a good week. I just wanted to say that we've had the same problems with our GE washer (your previous post). Ours didn't even last that long. The spinner wouldn't work half the time. I originally wanted a Maytag, but the Ex didn't want to spend that much. Well, we ended up replacing the GE with a Speed Queen, which cost as much as the Maytag would have. The SQ has been working great. Never will I ever buy a GE appliance again. Hope you & Bailey have a wonderful weekend!

    1. Thank you, Ms. Goose. We have vowed not to buy GE appliances also. We have a slush fund going for a Speed Queen if this one breaks down. So far so good though. 👍 I hope you have a wonderful weekend too. 😊

  6. I'm with you - a lovely day spent at home, with yummy food cooked from things we already have. Bonus, maybe organizing & decluttering a bit, & potentially selling things we no longer need. And, a long hike with a friend.

  7. My best frugal day is just the same as yours. Staying home, using what we already have and doing a bit of crafting.

    God bless.
