Frugal Friday

Welcome to Friday!

I want to send a thank you to Teresa G. this week for helping me by supporting my blog. I tried to send you an email, but it came back to me as undeliverable. So, I wanted to let you know here how much I appreciate you supporting my blog. And to the special person who supported the blog anonymously recently, thank you too. I appreciate you so much and just wanted to let you know.

We had thunder storms on Thursday of this week. We are thankful there was no damage here and are keeping those in the path of the tornados in Alabama in our thoughts today.

Quote of the Week
"Your number one wealth building tool is your income. Millionaires don't give away their money to Sallie Mae, Best Buy, Ford, Visa or Walmart. When you give your income to someone else you don't have it anymore. When you give your income away you have given up your economic future all for a flat-screen tv."

My Frugal Week

On Tuesday we made a trip to town and dropped off my sewing machine for a tune up. We also picked up a small order from Aldi and picked up some more red bag chicken.

We also did a pick up order from Publix, which we realized was incorrect after we got home. They gave us half of our items and half from another person's order. We did get a refund on the items we ordered and didn't receive. And, we also got to keep the items we did not order, which were a small container of chicken salad. vegetable Tator tots, a Caesar salad kit, and two kombucha probiotic drinks.

My sewing machine was bought for $25 at a yard sale during the summer of 2017. This machine has been a workhorse since then and I've used it to save us money and stretch our income since that time.  It was in need of a tune up though and I look forward to getting back in about a week or so.

Saving Money In My Frugal Kitchen

No food waste this week as we used up two bananas in Peanut Butter Chocolate Muffins.

Used up the last of some BBQ for one lunch.

I turned the bottle of Dawn over to drain into my bottle of dishwashing detergent. The big bottle is too heavy for everyday use, so I buy the big bottle to save money, and then decant it into a smaller bottle for everyday use.

Meals This Week:

Saturday: Deconstructed Eggrolls

Sunday Baked Potatoes(68 cents)

Monday: Tacos were on the menu for today. I used one of the leftover baked potatoes from Sunday, and put it through my Vidalia Chop Wizard and added it to the taco meat to s-t-r-e-t-c-h it out. I served these with lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, and onions.

There was enough left of the taco meat to have the for several lunches this week along with a couple of breakfasts too  I like how the potato stretched the meat out to last for multiple meals.

Tuesday & Wednesday: Since I had thawed ground beef  from what I did not use for the the tacos, I made cabbage rolls. I read a tip a few weeks ago to freeze your head of cabbage to easily pull the leaves off. I tried it and let the cabbage head thaw out and the leaves came off just as easily as if I had boiled the head to remove the leaves. Cabbage Rolls, Mashed Potatoes, Steamed Broccoli, Pickled Beets

  2. Sounds like a really great week for you! My eBay sales are finally picking up again, so that's been a nice surprise. We're also nearing the end of our prepped freezer meals, which is both great from a freezer clean out perspective, but means I need to get busy making more. :-)

    1. Thank you. That's terrific that your Bay sales are picking up. That's good that you've cleaned up your freezer. I love it when things get used up like that. :)

  3. Knowing how to sew is such a useful skill! I have saved so much $$ over the years especially when the kids were little, between mending their clothing and sewing new clothes for them.
I hope your machine checks out ok.

    1. Thank you, Ms. Goose. I love that sewing machine. It is a workhorse unlike some of the more inexpensive machines.

  7. Love the taco idea! My favorite thing to get from taco bell was the spicy potato soft taco. Too bad they took potatoes off the menu.

    1. Thank you, Nichole. Taco Bell is bringing back the potato taco permanently in a few weeks. Bailey was so disappointed when they took them off the menu. She loves them.

  8. Besides saving money by making clothing, curtains, costumes, etc., I saved money by mendiing towels and clothing, altering clothing, too. Plus, sewing for others and supporting myself sewing for a few years made money for me. And, I sold machines, too. I would find a sewing machine, make sure it sewed, adjust, oil, and clean it, and then sell it.

One day, I bought a machine with cabinet for $10. I took the machine out and sold it as is. then, I sold the cabinet. I suppose I made around $70 that time, forgot now.

  10. I feel my lack of sewing skills has probably hurt us financially. I've passe don good things that need repair. On th eother hand. I feel like I can stretch a penny in the kitchen area. Some of the big bottles of things are so heavy, but savings is good per ounce.

    1. I agree about the big bottles saving us money though they are heavy. And you do a great job in the kitchen saving money, Sam.

  11. When I make taco meat or other flavored ground meat filling I sometimes add a few instant mashed potato flakes. It adds to the amount of filling I get without adding a different taste.

  12. Hi Belinda :) The eggroll dish sounds fabulous! You know, I think I have a (paranoid but accurate lol) conspiracy theory that companies make jars and bottles so that we can't quite get all of the product out of them so that we have to buy more of it. I always cut my toothpaste tubes and guess what? I get at least a week's worth of toothpaste out of them where I would have otherwise tossed the tube and bought more!!

    1. I think the companies do that too, Rain. I cut my tubes as well to get the last little bit out. I also cut my tarter sauce containers open to get the last little bit out of there. It saves money to get the last little bit out rather than throwing it away.
